Irvine Chinese School serves children from 5 to 18 years old. As students, they’ll learn traditional phonetics, Han Yu Pin-Yin traditional and simplified characters, Chinese as a Second Language, and Chinese culture. The school was founded in 1976, and in the nearly fifty years since, they’ve been recognized for their efforts in Chinese education, arts, and sports. Currently, Irvine Chinese School serves over 1,000 students, placing them in one of fourteen levels based on language ability and placement test results. In addition to language courses, they also offer classes in Chinese painting, calligraphy, chess, crafts, performing arts, martial arts, basketball, and more!

Karis Language Academy

Karis Academy has been helping children of all backgrounds develop cultural awareness through language and cultural programs since opening in 2013. Their Chinese school courses have been designed by experienced teachers in order to prepare Irvine students to become well-rounded global citizens. Skilled instructors incorporate fun activities and interactive games into lessons to encourage children to learn through play and movement. They approach the curriculum through developmentally appropriate methods that are rooted in the interests of students, encouraging participation. A Little Dynasty

A Little Dynasty offers a Mandarin-immersive after-school program for children. Opened in 2010, the Irvine founders of A Little Dynasty School wanted to offer an alternative to a relatively unchanged traditional Chinese school curriculum, designing their programming to make Chinese learning fun and specifically make it accessible to children from non-Chinese-speaking families. Their state-of-the-art learning environment includes a charming Chinese-style village with kid-sized buildings, restrooms, and a working stage (for performances and presentations for parents!) All teachers at A Little Dynasty are native Mandarin speakers, many of whom are also alumni of prestigious language and education programs or have a master’s degree in child psychology or early childhood education. If you have a toddler, check out their Little D programming for language learners as young as 15 months old! 

Irvine International Academy

Irvine International Academy is a Mandarin/English Immersion and STEAM school for K-8 students. Founded in 2021, they strive to provide students with a “bilingual and bi-literate education that promotes high academic achievement and cultivates students’ social-emotional intelligence and curiosity.” Additionally, this incredible school is tuition-free! It remains free despite providing wonderful programs like year-long music classes, a STEAM Lab, and an in-house after-school program. Students will experience a linguistic environment where teachers speak English for half the day and Mandarin for the other half. Students also use tools like augmented reality technology and zSpace curriculum with learning stations featuring laptops and reflector tracking points. It’s a great way for students to engage hands-on with innovative technology!
