As an Orange County family photographer, I talk with so many parents about simple, meaningful ways to spend time together, and one of my go-to recommendations is always exploring local parks. These Irvine parks are some of the best in Orange County for families, offering tons of space to play, beautiful scenery, and activities that keep kids engaged (and happily tired by the end of the day!). If you’re planning a weekend outing or just need a new place to let your kids run free, here are some of my favorite Irvine-area parks to check out.
1 Irvine Park Rd, Orange, CA 92869
This park feels like a full-on adventure spot for families. Irvine Regional Park has expansive picnic areas, walking and biking trails, playgrounds, and even paddle boat rentals. Kids love the train rides and small zoo nearby, making it perfect for a full day of exploring. There’s also plenty of shaded space, which is a lifesaver on warmer days.

8000 Great Park Blvd, Irvine, CA 92618
Great Park is packed with activities for all ages. From playgrounds and sports fields to open lawns and walking paths, there’s always something to do. The famous Great Park Balloon adds a fun, memorable experience, and the park often hosts community events, farmers’ markets, and seasonal activities that make each visit feel a little different.

1 Sunnyhill, Irvine, CA 92603
Turtle Rock Community Center is a quieter, more relaxed park for Irvine families. It features a playground, open green spaces, and access to nearby trails. It’s a great place to bring a picnic, kick a ball around, or enjoy a slower-paced afternoon, especially if you have younger kids who thrive in calmer settings.

4 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine, CA 92606
Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park offers a nice mix of amenities in Irvine, including playgrounds, sports courts, and open grassy areas. It’s great for families who like a little variety. You can spend time on the playground, then head over to the courts, or just relax while the kids run freely.

18712 University Dr, Irvine, CA 92612
Mason Regional Park is one of those places where you can easily spend hours. There’s a beautiful lake with ducks, paved paths for biking or scootering, and large grassy areas that are perfect for games or picnics. It’s especially great if your family enjoys being active together while still having plenty of spots to sit and unwind.

2910 Portola Pkwy, Tustin, CA 92782
Just outside Irvine, Citrus Ranch Park offers a slightly different experience with its scenic views and hillside setting. The playground is a big hit with kids, and the elevated location gives it a breezy, open feel. It’s a great spot to watch the sunset and let kids play while you soak in the view.

Spending time at Irvine parks is one of the easiest ways to slow down and really connect as a family with no big plans required. If your kids love playgrounds, open spaces, or little adventures like train rides and walking trails, Irvine has something for everyone.
